Architects Designhaus is a contemporary architectural practice created by its Directors Richard Crawford, Andrew Shurman and John Padas to promote a ‘studio ethic’ in design, with a high standard of commitment to clients and strong technical bias towards the construction industry. Architects Designhaus and Smarterhaus have dedicated almost 3 years to architecturally developing our housing solutions with a specific focus on delivering the benefits of flexible modular and sustainable living in every aspect of design.
Tong Yong (Factory and Distribution Warehouse)
After 4 years of extensive R&D and machinery investment, Smarterhaus and Tong Yong have achieved the milestone of delivering the first prototype to Australia late 2008. Tong Yong Metal origin was developed from the establishment of Hong Liang Foundry Engineering in 1980 by Mr. Ng Hong Liang, as a machinery making and steel servicing centre, apart from supporting cable bridge projects for Tenaga Nasional Berhad across Malaysia.
In 1990, the Company has diversified its business range in steel products epoxy service via Hong Liang Steel Products Sdn. Bhd. to meet the Malaysian’s growing demand steel products.
Two years later in 1992, Tong Yong Metal Sdn. Bhd. was founded to further contribute to the Malaysian building and construction industry. Metal door and window frames from Tong Yong Metal Sdn. Bhd. had already established the market for quality steel building products, sold under the “UNI” brand. Since 1998, from the outset of its active involvement in the steel business, Tong Yong Metal Sdn. Bhd. has switched its focus to Research & Development of high quality steel base building materials and start applying for intellectual property recognition for its every invention.
As the result of Tong Yong Metal Sdn. Bhd.’s continual technical efforts, UNI- Interlocked Steel Roof Truss System has made its debut in the Malaysian market in 1999. UNI- Interlocked Steel Roof Truss System- a premium product that revolutionized the building and construction industry and transforms the features of architecture, providing new alternatives with more reliable and durable steel building materials for building and construction industries. Its other selling points include light gauge, high strength, fire resistant, termite proof, uniform quality and easily fabricated and erected steel pipes. Apart from patented rights in US, UK and other developed countries around the world. The factory also currently held the Australia patented design for its Square Hollow Section (SHS) with patent no:784497 which Smarterhaus apply to its design.
Current factory has a total direct workforce of 150 people and indirect (sub-contractor) workforce of 50 people with annual turnover of approximately $AUD15 million and expanding. Current factory facility covers an area of approximately 5 acres with room to expand the factory site to cope with future housing demand if needed.
