Building a smarter future

We all want to reduce our impact on the environment and save money in the process. Put simply, the less resources you use, the less money you’ll be spending, while making a big difference to the environment.

How can Smarterhaus help homeowners to achieve this?

Unlike conventionally designed and built homes, we have collaboratively worked with the best professionals from all areas to develop a contemporary design that boasts energy efficiency and water saving features that are not only good for the environment but deliver greater comfort and lower utility bills. Our unique modular homes have been architecturally designed and engineered with our patented Modular Panels to offer a minimum Energy Rating of 7 stars.

A House Energy Rating is an index of a building’s thermal performance (i.e. heating and cooling requirements) for residential homes in Australia and is a reliable indicator of the amount of energy a home uses. Our Energy Rating of 7 stars indicates that our products achieve a very high level of thermal energy performance and will require minimum levels of heating and cooling to be comfortable in winter and summer. Smarterhaus homes compared to the average 2 star home, are more comfortable to live in, have significantly lower energy bills, and are great for the environment. By reducing our energy usage we ultimately lower the levels of ‘greenhouse’ gases entering the atmosphere as a waste product from energy production. This all means a contribution to helping the environment in the fight against global warming.

So what makes Smarterhaus’s patented Modular Panel so energy efficient? After many years of research and development, we have mastered an extrusion technique for our Rigid Expandable Polyurethane (PU) insulation material, making it not only extremely energy efficient but affordable to produce too. Polyurethane by itself is considered one of the most efficient and lightweight insulation materials available on the market by comparison to more conventional materials.

In addition to a achieving an excellent Energy Rating, our products have adopted sustainable alternatives wherever possible. Our products encompass sustainable standards such as energy efficient appliances, water saving plumbing fittings, low VOC emitting paints, adhesives and sealants, double glazed windows and eco-friendly building materials and fabrics. In fact, our products are capable of achieving a carbon neutral status with the adoption of exciting sustainable technologies such as photovoltaic systems, solar hot water, gas energy and grey water recycling systems. A carbon neutral house is the pinnacle of sustainable living with little to no dependency on fossil fuel produced energy and actually capable of contributing green energy credits back to energy suppliers in the high solar harvesting summer months.

Smarterhaus employs a sustainable approach throughout the whole life-cycle of all our products from design, construction, maintenance and renovation; we use best practices and processes that are environmentally friendly and resource-efficient. While standard building practices are directed by short term economic considerations, our sustainable approach emphasizes new technologies that reduce the overall impact on the environment and deliver long term affordability, quality and efficiency.

Smarterhaus achieves a minimal impact construction process through using our flat pack system, which allows us to complete the majority of the work in our factory and have our products ready for lock-up in usually a single delivery. This all means that we greatly limit the amount of ‘greenhouse’ gases emitted as a result of any required transport during the construction process. In fact, our flat pack system is so logistically sound that we are capable of delivering multiple projects together.  Our patented Modular Panels are developed using eco-friendly technologies and have been designed to be easily placed without any excessive machinery use, further reducing the amount of energy normally required. From design to handing over the keys, you can be assured that your Smarterhaus product has been constructed with a sustainable approach in every aspect.

The need to make changes in the way energy is used and supplied throughout the world represents the greatest challenge to governments, businesses and individuals in moving toward sustainability. Smarterhaus is providing a significant step toward overcoming this challenge for all Australians. As more consumers experience the benefits of high energy rating and green homes, combined with an increased awareness of sustainability, support for greater energy efficiency outcomes will continue to grow.

Smarterhaus homes which achieve a 7 star rating, compared to the average 2 star home, are more comfortable to live in, have significantly lower energy bills, and are great for the environment.
