Smarterhaus are culturally aware and sensitive to the specific needs and requirements associated with indigenous housing and living within Australia. The Australian outback is unlike any other place on earth and both housing design and construction needs to be adjusted in order to provide both affordability and a high standard of living. Smarterhaus has solved this.
Smarterhaus has brought together an engineering and architectural team to create these modular home designs. They are high quality, contemporary and have the flexibility to have multiple design configurations with a minimum energy rating of 7 star. Smarterhaus can adapt this ingenious model and provide it not only as urban housing but also apply it to remote housing situations such as mining, agriculture, tourism and isolated community housing. The buildings are also destined for relief housing in disaster and crisis zones.
An exciting innovation for Smarterhaus has been the development of specialised buildings for Indigenous housing in remote regions. Smarterhaus has conducted extensive research with Architects and Ms Ruth Rutherford, a consultant who has lived and worked on remote communities in northern Australia for more than 10 years, to achieve a range of clever designs that fully deliver to the unique needs of housing for indigenous people and other remote communities.
Ruth has brought with her to Smarterhaus a comprehensive understanding of the northern indigenous lifestyle and an awareness of dismal failure of existing housing to fully provide homes that successfully accommodate aboriginal people. Ruth has therefore used her knowledge and experience to assist Smarterhaus architects in designing a number of housing units that are culturally appropriate, allowing for avoidance relationships and lifestyles that require much more nature friendly accommodation.
The homes are designed not just to reduce the carbon footprint of construction but also to provide a sturdy and safe environment, wide doorways for wheel chair access and fused flooring catering for excessive tear and wear.
